Tomatin Distillery is located just 16 miles north of Aviemore and 15 miles south of Inverness on the main Perth to inverness A9 trunk route. Visit the distillery and take a tour to learn more about the whisky making process and taste our fine whisky.
Illicit stills are an important part of the history of whisky distilling in Scotland. Tomatin as a distilling site, illicit or otherwise, dates back to the 15th century and whisky has been central to the way of life ever since. Tomatin Distillery is home to the finest Highland Malt Whisky, located on the eastern edge of the Monadhliath Mountains just south of Inverness.
Established in 1897, Tomatin (to rhyme with satin) is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland at 315m above sea level. The soft waters of the Alt-na-Frith (free burn) run clear and pure through the mountains over peat, heather and hard granite, creating a Highland Malt with delicate flavours yet a rich and mellow style. Its undoubted quality and consistency make for a truly fine dram.
Visitors are welcome to view the Distillery and our newly refurbished Visitor Centre and shop, which offers a full range of Tomatin products. Take a tour to gain a unique insight into the Distillery’s traditional working methods, its history and its importance within the world of Scotch Whisky.

Available free of charge throughout the day, every day, are samples of the Tomatin 12 year old Single Highland Malt Whisky.
