The Macallan, the world’s ultimate luxury single malt whisky, has unveiled The 1824 Masters Series featuring two stunning decanters. The range, including Reflexion and No.6, features the finest single malt, 100% sherry seasoned in oak casks. The Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker expertly crafted the whiskies to showcase the signature style of The Macallan and honour the beautiful spectrum of natural colour unique to this exceptional single malt.
Sitting atop Ruby within the current 1824 Series, these striking new decanters, each one magnificent in status and appearance, will carry whisky connoisseurs through the range to the crescendo of M, the halo of the entire series and the world’s most valuable single malt whisky.
This collection of exceptional single malt whiskies becomes increasingly dark and alluring, increasing in complexity as the chosen casks themselves become scarcer and the range progresses from Reflexion to No. 6. This is testament to The Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker’s, Bob Dalgarno, meticulous selection of the most exceptional sherry seasoned oak casks.
Taking inspiration from The Macallan’s iconic triangle and the desire to showcase the whiskies stunning natural colours, the exquisite style and design of each decanter beautifully showcases the peerless spirit which defines The Macallan.
Ken Grier, Director of Malts, Edrington, says: “The new 1824 Masters Series represents an extremely exciting development for The Macallan. The stunning designs and overall imprint of this new collection are not only worthy of some of our most complex and precious single malt whiskies, they celebrate the very foundations that make The Macallan so special – our glorious range of natural colour and the outstanding quality of our casks .”
The Macallan Reflexion (43% ABV, £900) is a reflection of the foremost influence of first fill sherry seasoned oak casks, drawing its colour and flavour from maturation in hogshead casks. These are smaller casks which allow for greater surface area of wood to interact with the spirit to deliver an intricate character driven by the influence of both Spanish and American oak casks.
Sculpted through the inspiration of The Macallan’s iconic triangular shape, Reflexion is a masterpiece both in style and stature. Its exquisite angular facets each reflect the light to showcase the deep red mahogany hue of the whisky within.
The depth of the colour and the complexity of flavour of Reflexion derive from the casks selected for this distinctive expression by the Master Whisky Maker. Bold and full-bodied, Reflexion is a celebration of floral and vanilla notes, punctuated with fresh apples and apricots.
The Macallan No.6 (43% ABV, £2,800) brings together the art of The Macallan Master Whisky Maker with the exquisite craftsmanship of Lalique resulting in a piece of timeless elegance. Exclusively designed and crafted for The Macallan, this flawless crystal decanter pays homage to the single malt’s heritage through its use of triangular facets representing the Six Pillars, incorporating the iconic triangular feature as a key element of its creation.
Silvio Denz, Chairman and CEO of Lalique, says: “Lalique is very proud to have contributed to the exquisite Macallan 1824 Masters Series N°6 Decanter. The angular shape of N°6 with its six facets was the outcome of our head designer’s excellent creativity and the work of Lalique’s master craftsmen. This collaboration reinforces Lalique’s long standing commitment to The Macallan and it has been a pleasure to create No.6, a unique object d’art.”
The classically beautiful Lalique decanter encases complex single malt made using only first fill Spanish sherry oak casks from a single Jerez cooperage. The beautiful design enhances the enticing, rich dark walnut colour of a classic Macallan character, a celebration of richness, spice and dried fruit with a layer of heady orange groves.
The Macallan’s Master of Wood, Stuart MacPherson, says: “Wood sits at the very heart of what we do at The Macallan and this range further demonstrates the vital role of our casks in the production of these superb whiskies. Our commitment to sherry seasoned oak casks is unquestionable and the Masters Series showcases The Macallan at its very best. ”
The Macallan 1824 Masters Series is a stunning collection of whiskies created to showcase the beautiful range of The Macallan’s natural colour. As you move through the collection, each expression becomes increasingly dark and more complex, reflecting the careful selection of exceptional casks. The interaction of spirit and wood alone delivers the beautiful range of rich, natural colours that distinguish The Macallan whiskies.

The luxury whisky brand took over windows five and six on Brompton Road from 2nd – 10th July and created a gentleman’s lounge in the window display of the world’s most famous luxury department store. The sampling activity kicked off with an exclusive event showcasing some essential skills every gentleman should master led by Maxxium’s Mixxit team; including a master class by Wayne Collins in the art of creating a classic whisky cocktail, The Macallan Old Fashioned, and a tutored session from David Miles on how to expertly nose and taste a whisky. The space was created to celebrate the award winning The Macallan 1824 Series, with over 1,000 consumers sampling the Series’ four expressions; Gold, Amber, Sienna and Ruby over the course of nine days.
Consumers explored the whiskies via style pillars, each perfectly designed to represent the four single malts through the world of fashion, grooming and lifestyle. To complete the experience The Refinery, London’s luxury Grooming Emporium for men, was on hand to offer complimentary treatments such as wet shaves, hairstyling and massages. Peter Sandstrom, Marketing Director at Maxxium UK, commented: “We wanted to create an experience for consumers to engage with The Macallan in a very different environment and one that reflected the brand’s luxury credentials. With Harrods as the perfect host, The Macallan Lifestyle Lounge achieved great stand out, intrigue and interaction with consumers passing through. With a high trial to conversion rate it’s important we allow people to taste The Macallan for themselves. Sampling is therefore a key part of The Macallan’s investment plan, which will allow us to grow the brand’s popularity and introduce new consumers to whisky. After the lightning strike of the mighty Thor and the smoky complexity of the trickster Loki, Highland Park has turned its attention to the mesmerising Norse Goddess of Love, Freya for the third release in the acclaimed Valhalla Collection.
Famed for her great beauty and often known as The Fair One, Freya is the patron and protector of the human race, and to whom souls travel to be renewed. On one hand she is a beautiful and sensitive adviser but on the other a hot blooded and glorious Warrior that no one can resist.
Her story is full of colour and legends. Spring flowers fall from her hair and she sheds tears of gold and amber. It is believed the reflection from her magical cloak of feathers in the night sky creates the aurora borealis (Northern Lights).
Highland Park has continued The Valhalla Collection tradition of reflecting the character and qualities of the Norse Gods in the whisky itself, this time taking Freya’s intriguing allure and feisty personality as their inspiration to create an entrancing single malt – full, rich and complex with a lingering beguiling finish.
The shimmering gold 15 year old vibrant whisky offers a white chocolatey aroma with a fresh tropical fruitiness emerging from the trademark gentle, sweet smokiness Highland Park is known and loved for.
Freya represents the continuation of Highland Park’s Valhalla Collection; a range of four unique whiskies taking inspiration from the legendary Nordic gods of old. Bottled at 51.2% ABV this limited edition whisky comes housed in the same unique and award winning wooden frame of Thor and Loki, echoing the fearsome contours of a traditional Viking long ship.
Gerry Tosh, Global Marketing Manager said:
“Freya is the only female to feature in The Valhalla Collection and being a serene, spiritual and giving goddess, she brings a fresh allure and depth to the lineup. Her beauty and majesty are said to make her utterly captivating and I think people might feel the same about this smooth and classy single malt. It is unmistakably Highland Park, but offers a rich, full burst of flavour that reflects this Warrior God’s mesmeric aura and feisty dominant side.”
Freya will be available from specialist independent whisky retailers, at the Highland Park distillery and www.highlandpark.co.uk from 7th February at a RRP of £140.
Highland Park Freya – 15 years old – 51.2% abv
Colour: The Fair One, golden
Aroma: Almond and Madagascan vanilla shimmer in the distance like the Aurora Borealis. White chocolate followed by candied cherries makes way for a vibrant wave of mango and melon, riding upon a cloud of cream soda.
Taste: The heart of this whisky shines like a jewel, surrounded by fragrant peat. Orange peel, butterscotch and rose petals provide the sweetness along with orange blossom and ginger. Lively popping candy, lemongrass and tropical fruits are lightly shrouded in peat smoke.
Finish: Complex and beautiful, yet balanced and considered like Freya herself, the finish gives lingering spice and soft peat smoke intertwined with soft orchard fruits, toasted coconut and a light char, providing a rounded depth and allowing this whisky to soar.
